Bosom Buddies - Promoting Breast Feeding in Gateshead (121 Kb)

The Bosom Buddies scheme was set up in 2002 to help new breast-feeding mothers through a network of peer supporters. Now, with 60 buddies trained, levels of mothers breast-feeding within 48 hours of being discharged from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital are at their highest since recording began.

The Cambridge Road Children’s Centre breastfeeding support project is helping to improve breastfeeding rates in a deprived ward in Southend by enabling mothers to make an informed choice on breast feeding, as well as receive practical support.
