Research shows that where fathers have early involvement in a child's life:
  • There is a positive relationship to later educational achievement;
  • There is an association with good parent / child relationship in adolescence; and
  • Children in separated families are more protected from mental health problems.

Project to boost fathers in Northumberland

A new project is being launched in Northumberland to get fathers more involved in family life. Northumberland County Council has come together with the charity Children North East Fathers Plus to the project that aims to involve fathers in ante and post natal services, nurseries, children's centres and schools.


Dads go wild with children

"A day of activities for dads and their children could become an annual event after hundreds of families enjoyed fun in the sun in South Oxford at the weekend. .... The day was run by volunteers from Donnington Children's Centre and the Oxfordshire Parenting Forum and featured football workshops from Oxford United, a fire engine, live music from South Parade, a barbecue, circus skills and many other games and activities."

New resources to get dads involved in early years

The Pre-school Learning Alliance has launched a series of new resources to help early years workers get fathers involved. They include a half-day workshop to help get dads involved with their children’s learning, a dedicated web page and a wall planner to highlight the importance of fathers.
